Jordan’s Book

Each member of the class worked on producing an online story book using the Story Jumper website.  You can check out the site here.

Jordan did such a great job on his book that I decided to get it ordered from America and sent over.  Story Jumper allows you to publish any of the online books you have created.

Jordan dedicated the story to his younger sister and when it finally arrived he read it to the class.

Great work, Jordan.  We are all very proud of you.

Study Ladder

Study Ladder is a great website which allows teachers to set specific tasks to specific students covering a huge variety of topics and content.

Last week I set some Reading and Grammar tasks for the students to complete.  Students can track their progress and see how well they went when the task is complete.

Here are some photos of them working in the computer room:

First Fleet Research

As part of our unit on First Contacts, Year 4 researched the different ships of the First Fleet to discover their names, what their purpose was and how big they were.

Locating and processing information from the Internet is a key skill that students need to learn.

The names of the First Fleet ships are:

  • Alexander
  • Borrowdale
  • Charlotte
  • Fishburn
  • Friendship
  • Golden Grove
  • Lady Penrhyn
  • Prince of Wales
  • Scarborough
  • HMS Sirius
  • HMS Supply

Post some interesting facts about these ships if you find any

Words Their Way

We have started a new Spelling program this year called Words Their Way.

Students work with words by putting them into sorts (or categories) based on their sound or the spelling convention.

Each night they have a variety of activities which help them understand the words and how to detect similarities and differences within their sorts.
