Chicken Visit

Today Adella’s mum brought in the little chickens that had hatched in their incubator. They had been asked by a friend to hatch the eggs.

It was really exciting because we had never hatched eggs before. The first thing you see is a little hole and then the chickens break through. My favourite chick was the one with a special pattern on its back.” Adella

Footy Colours Day

Football is about spirit, strength, courage and the fight to win. Those touched by cancer share a similar journey and need the same strength and courage to win their individual fight.

Every year in September, Fight Cancer Foundation asks all Australians to choose their one day in September to show their true colours and wear their favourite football team’s colours to support the fight against cancer.

Today was Myrtleford P-12’s Footy Colours Day.

Some of our work in class was around the theme ‘Footy’ and we rotated through some different activities in the afternoon.

Here are some photos:

Library Time

We love going to the Library on Wednesdays. The children get to find a nice cosy spot to sit/lie and read a book of their choice. Some children like to read joke books and we get to hear their favourite joke at the end of the reading time. To finish off I read a story book to the class. Whoever has the closest birthday gets to choose the book.

Expanding and Contracting

In Science this week we looked at how heat can make things expand (get bigger) and how the cold can make things contract (get smaller).

We observed our environment on the way to the Science Room and noticed that all the concrete in the school had expansion joints to help allow for this expanding and contracting.

We then conducted an experiment to observe how the heat and cold can make air expand and contract by placing a balloon over a water bottle and placing it in boiling water and water filled with ice.

The Year 3 Scientists all seemed to make correct predictions and their hypothesis was confirmed during the experiment.

Here are some photos of the bottles after they had been placed in hot water. The ‘scientists’ found this part of the experiment particularly funny (I’m not sure why…)
