Year 6 Buddies and Transition Day

The school year is almost over and across Victoria all students moved up a grade for the day as part of Transition Day.

Students got a chance to experience ‘A Day in the Life’ in the grade they will be moving to in 2015, as well as meet their new teacher.

I am very excited to be moving to Year 6 in 2015 and I had a great day with the class that I will be teaching next year. It will be sad to say goodbye to the class I had this year, but who knows, maybe I will teach them again in the future.

One of the activities we did on Transition Day was to prepare for working with the new Prep Students. We have a buddy system at our school where the Year 6 students help the new Prep students become familiar with ‘big school’ and help them feel safe and secure.

The Year 6 students made a Christmas card for their buddy which they delivered at recess time. They then sat and ate with them and then helped them in the playground. The Year 6 students were a great help and made the new Prep students feel very welcome.

Visit to Myrtleford Lodge

On Friday 28th November, the 3/4 students went to the Myrtleford Lodge to do some activities with the elderly residents there. We were split up into 3 groups to do activities like quizzes, word hunts and ball games. We spent about an hour there. Before we went back to school we sang some Christmas Carols to them. We sang Aussie Jingle Bells, Santa Claus is Coming to Town and We Wish You a Merry Christmas. The residents were so happy that we came to visit.
