The Lord is Our Shepherd…

In Christian Education we have been learning about what God is like.  This week we read Psalm 23 and discussed how God is like a shepherd who cares for His sheep.

The students completed some great work on drawing a scene of what Psalm 23 means to them and complete an acrostic poem using the word, ‘SHEPHERD’.

Here is some of their work:

Narnia Literacy Activities

As part of our unit of work on our class novel, ‘The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe’, students had to complete a variety of literacy activities.  This included:

  • Write a set of interview questions for a character in the book
  • Write a letter to the author telling him what you think about the book
  • Write an acrostic poem for the book or a character
  • Design a comic strip on an event in the story.
  • etc.

Here are some creative work samples:

Why Buy Australian?

As part of our Global Connections unit, the students engaged in an inquiry topic of ‘Why should we buy Australian made products’?

They worked in Collaborative Clusters to research the different types of Australian made products and also the meaning of the different logos.

They also worked in pairs to produce a poster to encourage Australians to buy home-made products and support Australian workers and our country’s economy.

Here are some photos of the students at work and some of the finished posters…

Favourite Bible Verse

The students at our College sponsor a couple of Compassion children.  As part of Compassion Day, the students chose a favourite Bible verse and explained why they liked it.  They also then had to draw a picture to help illustrate their verse.

Here is a flipsnack of some of the best…

Turkish Delight

As part of a descriptive writing lesson, students in 6L were given a piece of Turkish Delight.  Turkish delight was what the White Witch in Narnia used to lure Edmund back to her castle and maintain some control over him.  Not to mention the ‘promise’ that he would also rule as a King in Narnia…

We discussed how good descriptions needed to appeal to all the senses…

  • Sight
  • Smell
  • Taste
  • Touch
  • Sound

Once they received their Turkish Delight they had to write a description that would best describe the treat they had in their hand.

Here are a sample of some of the students’ work…

Natural Disasters Presentations

As part of our unit on Natural Disasters, students worked in Collaborative Clusters to present information on a particular natural disaster.

They had to research the causes and effects of the natural disaster.  They also had to work out the precautions to take before, during and after the natural disaster.

Their report was to be presented to the class using either Powerpoint or Prezi.  Each team also produced a one-page handout which contained information about their natural disaster as well as a quiz, find-a-word or crossword section.

Here are the teams.
