End of Year Board Games

As the year drew to a close the students worked in pairs to design and make a board game to be played by other members of the class.

The instructions on how to create the board game (including necessary criteria) can be seen here.

Once they made their board game they tested it and then asked another group to play it and provide them feedback on things that worked well and what could be done to improve it.

Finally, we had a Games Afternoon where we set up tables around the room and students played the board games in groups of 4.  Once they played the game the group would fill out a Peer Review form which assessed the game on the following attributes:

  1. Aesthetic appearance
  2. Clear and concise rules
  3. Simple gameplay
  4. Fun and engaging gameplay
  5. Good variety through the game
  6. Appropriate quiz questions
  7. Overall feeling about the game

This would then give the game a score which was used to provide feedback on how others found the game.

LifeSaving Program

Being Australians, we love to spend time in the water.  Our climate over summer is perfect for days at the beach or lazing around a pool.  As the school year winds down and holidays approach, we thought it was vital that our students head into summer holidays with some water safety understanding and skills on how to protect and save others in the water.

We headed to Hawkesbury Oasis where the students learned to correctly use a PFD (Personal Floatation Device), rescue a stranding swimmer with a make-shift tool, conduct CPR on a mannequin, learn to step safely into water, and many other things.
