Natural Disasters Presentations

This week the students presented their reports on the Natural Disaster that they had been researching.

Each Collaborative Cluster had the task of teaching the rest of the class about a particular natural phenomenon, such as:

  • Floods
  • Bushfires
  • Volcanoes
  • Tsunamis
  • Avalanches
  • Tornadoes
  • Earthquakes

Each group had to give an explanation on how the natural phenomenon occurs, what the effects are on people and the environment and what measures have been put in place to restrict or prevent further harm.

Some groups used good ol’ Powerpoint while others harnessed the creative elements of Prezi.

Some used songs, others used hands on activities.

Here are some photos of the groups and some images/videos of what they did:

Gymnastics

Today the students started their gymnastics program.  They were all very excited and were like little jumping jacks – they could hardly sit still!

Here are a couple of images of them warming up.

Keep checking back as I will upload some videos over the coming weeks of the students learning gymnastics.

You Can Do It

This year our school is introducing a new Social Skills program called, You Can Do It.

If looks at how to achieve success and happiness through 5 keys:

  1. Confidence
  2. Resilience
  3. Persistence
  4. Organisation
  5. Getting Along

Here are the students’ preliminary thoughts on what they think these concepts mean presented in a skit:

4000 Visits!

Today we reached 4000 visits to our class blog!

This is very exciting.  If you are reading this now then you helped contribute to this.

THANKS FOR VISITING!

It is great to know that the students have a world-wide audience.

Everything we create has the potential to be awesome – so we should always strive to do our best.

“I have been impressed with the urgency of doing. Knowing is not enough; we must apply. Being willing is not enough; we must do.”Leonardi Da Vinci

“Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ” Colossians 3:23-24

Drawing Portraits

6L have been drawing portraits, paying particular attention to the amazing way our faces are different and unique.

Using a photograph as a guide the students had to transfer the image as accurately as possible.

Here are some great examples:

2013 is underway!!!

A new term has started and we haven’t wasted any time getting busy with learning.

I’m excited about working with a new group of students.  They are a great bunch of kids and we are already having lots of fun learning.

Our Collaborative Clusters have started and already the students are working in teams to research information about different Natural Disasters.

Here are some photos of the students using Corkboard.me to collaborate and share information to be included in their handout.
