Our final stop was Questacon! Students were able to explore the world of Science and nature with hands-on exhibits and interesting displays.

Australian Institute of Sport
Last day in Canberra. First stop was the AIS.
We got to see some of the elite athletes in our country as well as see some world-class facilities. We also got to take part in some different sports and fitness training.
CSIRO Discovery Centre
After lunch we stopped at the CSIRO Discovery Centre and learned more about the CSIRO and what they do.
The students pretended to be scientists and conducted experiments, as well as learned about some great advances in technology.
Australian War Memorial
First stop today was the Australian War Memorial. The students were broken up in small groups to explore the displays and remember those who had lost their lives at war.
We also took part in the Discovery Zone which allowed the students to get a bit more involved in their learning.
Parliament House
At Parliament House we visited the 2 Houses of Parliament – The House of Representatives and the Senate. We conducted a role play of passing a bill in Parliament.
We were also able to see a copy of the Magna Carta which was on display.
Electoral Education Centre
First stop in Canberra is the Electoral Education Centre in Old Parliament House, Canberra.
The students learned about preferential voting and our system of Democracy
Magna Carta
6L are about to travel to Canberra to visit Parliament House and learn more about our Government in Australia.
In preparation to studying our unit on Government, we discussed the different ways countries are run and the pros and cons of each.
We agreed the democracy, although not perfect, is the best way individuals can have a voice in the way their country is run.
We looked at how the Magna Carta was one of the first examples of the voice of the people (albeit barons) being able to have a voice in government and how they were to be ruled by the king. In essence, it was the beginning of a constitution.

Gymnastics
Students have now been participating in gymnastics for a couple of weeks and many are showing good improvement.
