Fire Awareness Week

fireVictoria’s annual fire planning and preparation week, Fire Action Week, runs from 16-23 November.

Last summer, firefighters responded to more than 40,000 incidents, and 4,600 bushfires and grassfires burned across the state. Current forecasts suggest that parts of Victoria are at above-average risk of bushfire and grassfire this summer.

On hot, dry and windy days fires can start and spread quickly.

This week we have spent some time talking about bushfires and helping students increase their understanding of the fire risk where they live, how to prepare their property and to work out what they should do if a fire does start.

We encouraged each other to talk to our families about the fire risk where we live, and make plans for what we’ll do on hot, dry and windy days.
